Finding Resolutions Efficiently And Effectively

Divorce can be a frightening, stressful process. Many people don't know where to turn for the support and advice they need. There may be decisions to make regarding child custody and child support. With the help of an experienced family law attorney, these decisions and the disputes they can cause can be resolved quickly and successfully.

With Rosalyn W. Otieno, Attorney at Law, you get the strong, aggressive advocacy and excellent client service you need.

Understanding The Divorce Process

The decisions you make during your divorce will impact your life for years. The divorce may include a property division settlement for the distribution of marital property, as well as marital debts. Not all assets — real estate, a house or other property, for instance — can be evenly split. It's important that you work with a lawyer who understands the financial ramifications of a divorce and can come to an acceptable solution for all parties involved.

Issues of child or spousal support (alimony) and child custody may also be part of the final divorce agreement. We can help you understand your particular financial situation. We will look at both family and monetary needs and then work with you to find a successful asset division and child custody resolution to your divorce process.

Mutual Consent Divorce

In the past, Maryland divorce law made the process of getting a divorce significantly more complex, lengthy and costly for couples without children. Beginning in 2015, however, the Legislature amended the law to make it much easier, faster and less expensive for certain couples to get divorced. Maryland couples who do not have minor children no longer must wait out a 12-month separation period before obtaining a no-fault absolute divorce, provided that they can agree on how to divide marital property. In 2018, Mutual Consent Divorce has now been expanded to include couples with minor children who have resolved all the issues related to their minor children. Attorney Rosalyn Otieno can help eligible couples take advantage of the many benefits of this new law.

Limited-Scope Representation Available

Until recently, Maryland couples wishing to get a divorce with the aid of an attorney were limited to full legal representation, meaning the attorney was required to represent clients in all aspects of their divorce cases. This could be quite expensive for clients, as it often required a large retainer.

With recent rule changes, however, Maryland family law attorneys may now offer limited-scope representation. This allows clients to limit the scope of their legal representation to suit their needs, which can be a more affordable option for many clients. For example, a client may wish to limit the involvement of an attorney to drafting and reviewing the documents to be filed with the court. Attorney Rosalyn Otieno can evaluate your case and determine whether limited-scope representation would be right for your unique situation.
